I thinking that at 12 yrs old that is when children is expose to to smoking and drug use. According to article smoking and adolescence In 2010, about 2.6 million American adolescents reported using a tobacco product. That is a lot of adolescents I wonder if the numbers are up in 2016. Also according to the article In that same year it was found that nearly 60 percent of new smokers were under the age of 18 when they first smoked a cigarette. Of smokers under age 18, more than 6 million will likely die prematurely from a smoking-related disease.
Young adults (18-25)
I believe that the people that start smoking at a young age continue to smoke as a young adult and some young adults start to smoke at the age 18. According to the article college- age and young adults.Daily marijuana use among college-aged young adults is at its highest since 1980, surpassing daily cigarette smoking for the first time in 2014. This mean smoking has rise and will continue to rise.

This shows how the marijuana among college student rise.
This was a very interesting post Deja. he infographic was very helpful. I would have thought marijuana use was high in the 90's too, but it seems to be much higher in college now. I had never used a tobacco product when I was under the agae of 17 so it is shocking knowing so many people at that age group do.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post Deja. I was not surprise of the ages mention about first time smokers for adolescent. Its interesting that weed smoking is at an all time high since 1980. I never once used a tobacco product but I always interest in why people indulge in the activity.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was an interesting topic and so relevant because many people smoke weed. The infographic was perfect, it went well with your topic and was beneficial. Who knew smoking weed was so popular? I know i didn't.
ReplyDeleteMany people do use tobacco products, I see that on a daily basis. I can agree with the fact that many may die prematurely because of smoking.
ReplyDeleteI THINK THIS TOPIC WAS VERY INTERESTING. THE PHOTO ARE VEERY INTRESTING IT CATCHES MY ATTENTION AND I LOVE THE LITTLE INFORMATION THAT IF GIVES. IVE KNOWN ALOT OF PEOPLE SMOKING WEED AND I REALY DONT UNDERTSTAND WHY
ReplyDeleteMy dad starting smoking when he was 12 years old. He continued to smoke until he was 63 years old. That is over 50 years! The only reason he stopped? He got cancer. Smoking is such a bad and hard habit to break, especially if you start young. Smoking is very common in the younger populations because they think that it is "cool," and knowing this I think we need to work harder to stop them. Good post, and good graphic!
ReplyDeleteI liked your post and how you broke it up into age groups and how you used a picture to further get your point across.
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart that so many children die from smoking!!
ReplyDeleteIts sad, but these statistics didn't surprise me! My mom was only 14 when she started smoking! When I was around 15 I was asked for the first time if I wanted to smoke. My little brother is almost14 and its crazy to think that he may be exposed to it very soon! Making the right decision at a young age could change everything! Good point and great graphics!
